Galleria O.
Galleria O., founded in Rome in 2009 by Roberto Giustini, Rossella Peruzzi and Stefano Stagetti, works with Italian design of the twentieth century as well as international contemporary design. The gallery focuses on historical design from 1930 to 1970, primarily concentrating on the work of Gio Ponti, Fontana Arte and Ettore Sottsass. For its contemporary design projects, the gallery invites international designers to rethink Italian artistic and handcraft traditions to develop new limited-edition works commissioned and produced exclusively. Galleria O. regularly collaborates with museums and public institutions to support and promote its artists.
For Design Miami/ 2014 the gallery has selected exceptional historical pieces designed by some of the most representative Italian designers and manufacturers. On display is a rare pair of Mod. 820 armchairs designed by Gio Ponti in 1956 for Cassina; a stunning mirror in wood and cabochon crystals by Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte from 1957; and a rare Tavolo 2000 from the Plurimi series created by Gabriella Crespi in 1970.
The modern works are displayed along with unedited limited-edition pieces created exclusively for Galleria O. by contemporary designers. Works include unedited pieces by the Campanas: two precious pedestals in bronze and marble, three marble consoles and a new sofa in velvet and gilded bronze. The gallery also previews its collaboration with Italian designer Andrea Anastasio, presenting one piece from the first collection he is designing for Galleria O.: an intriguing coffee table in fine marble and leather.
On this occasion the gallery presents an outlook on the idea of “object” in contemporality. By combining traditional materials and techniques and contemporary concepts, the Campanas and Iosselliani expressly created works that interpret in a personal way the symbolic function of a decorative object today.
